Overwatch 2

Rating: 7/10

On my Xbox, I had 500-ish hours on Overwatch 1. It’s safe to say that I really enjoyed my time with that game. I had a bunch of skins, I loved Roadhog, and the events in that game were absolutely spectacular. As I entered into my senior year of high school, and then into my college years, I kind of lost my enjoyment for that game, and I just stopped playing it all together.

I was surprised when I heard that Blizzard was actually going through with Overwatch 2… but now it was free to play? That caught me off guard, in a weird way (now all my friends could play it with me). Let’s just say when I opened up the game, I was in for quite a surprise.

I really didn’t mind the loot boxes, I found it quite fun sometimes. This new battle pass system is not for me though.

There are only 80 tiers 😦

The pass sorta retracts from any incentive to play the game. Sure there are 80 levels to grind through (and then titles afterwards), but with loot boxes (NOT TRYING TO DEFEND THIS) there was actually something to look forward to each and every time you level up.

The new characters are pretty cool though. Sojourn is a little overpowered, Kiriko is just fine (another Japanese ninja? C’mon Blizzard, inclusivity my ass), and Junker Queen which needs a little retouching if you ask me.

The old characters are fine, I guess? (RIP BASTION). Some of their tweaks were uncalled for (i.e. Orisa), while others were a nice change. There is a giant balancing issue sometimes, where some characters feel like they are unnecessary or not fit for their certain class (i.e. Doomfist). This was an issue that was always plaguing Overwatch, but now it’s more apparent.

I do rage quite a bit in these games, but it’s like TF2, come on, who doesn’t? But these new metas man, they’re starting to peeve me.

The game is fun, don’t get me wrong. But it just doesn’t feel the same. I have made some really fun memories on Overwatch 2 (with roughly 60-80 hours on the game already), but the balancing along with the incredibly shotty release (haha funny DDOS attack), I’m seeing this game as a modern “ripoff” of the original. Maybe in the future my views might change, but all in all: DO BETTER, BLIZZARD.

Yours Truly
